Indie Bookstores #mondayblogs #amwriting #amreading

Today my favorite indie bookstore (Another Read Through in Portland, Oregon) announced that from now on we can buy NEW BOOKS on their website. I always order new books from my store, but this will make it so much easier.

As you know, that big online bookstore drove almost every bookseller in the country out of business, including chain bookstores. The little indies who hung on deserve our business, and have had mine for years. I do my readings there, they stock my books on their shelves, and I encourage everyone to buy from indies. They support readers and authors alike, and deserve our support.

Here is the direct link to allow you to start shopping at Another Read Through. The last book I ordered from them is Uncovered by Leah Lax. I’m reading it now.

Writers need to read a few hours every day. We need to read in our genre, we need to read literary fiction, we need to read non-fiction related to writing, to our topics, and more. The non-fiction book I’m currently reading is Jane Smiley’s Thirteen Ways of Looking at the Novel. She opens with a list of 101 novels to read. I’ve read 33 of them.

What are you reading this week? Do you read more than one book at a time? Do you read both fiction and non-fiction? Do you read poetry? What about plays?
