3 Reasons I love thrillers #mondayblogs #writing #reading

I would love the thriller genre a lot more except that most thrillers involve the torture and murder of either women, children, or animals, or all three. I’ve finished writing my own thriller in which none of those three are tortured or killed. Also, I’d like it if more women wrote thrillers. (My favorite thriller writer is Chelsea Cain.)And here’s why I love the genre:

  1. Suspense. I like suspense in my reading material, no matter what genre it is, but thrillers are always suspenseful.
  2. Knowing and not knowing. Thrillers are not mysteries, so you usually know or soon find out who is doing the bad deeds. What you don’t know is what will happen to that person. Will they get away with it? Will they get caught?
  3. Seeing the dark side of life without having to actually experience it. Ya know? Vicarious thrills.

My thriller, Till Darkness Comes, will launch on June 15th at Another Read Through Bookstore in Portland, Oregon. Please come and hear me read, let me sign your books, and celebrate with me. 3932 N Mississippi, Portland, 7-8:30pm.

  1. I liked Hannibal lecture for that reason, the violence was always implied, always made you hide and watch between your fingers, but was never shown.
    Clever story telling.
